Saudi Arabia's 2024 Annual Report Highlights Significant IP Enforcement Successes
The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property has unveiled its 2024 annual report on intellectual property enforcement. This report highlights the collaborative efforts of various government bodies in the enforcement sector, showcasing significant achievements in detecting and reducing violations across commercial establishments, border crossings, and digital platforms.
Throughout the year, the authority conducted over 2,000 inspections and field enforcement visits across 51 cities and governorates in Saudi Arabia. These efforts were part of a broader initiative to ensure compliance with intellectual property laws. The inspections aimed to identify and address any violations within these regions.

In collaboration with the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the report detailed handling 330 suspicious customs shipments. This cooperation successfully prevented more than 6.7 million infringing products from entering the local market. Such measures are crucial in safeguarding intellectual property rights within the Kingdom.
The digital realm saw a significant increase in enforcement activities during 2024. A total of 7,908 infringing websites were shut down, representing a 128% rise compared to 2023. These actions primarily targeted illegal live-streaming sites that violated Copyright Law, demonstrating a robust approach to digital IP protection.
On an international level, Saudi Arabia made notable progress in various global indicators related to IP rights enforcement. The Kingdom improved its standing in reports such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s International IP Index and the World Competitiveness Report's enforcement index by the International Institute for Management Development.
Beyond Enforcement: Awareness and Cooperation
The report emphasised that Saudi Arabia's enforcement efforts extend beyond merely addressing violations. They also focus on raising awareness, empowering stakeholders, and fostering international cooperation. These initiatives aim to create an environment conducive to creativity and investment within the Kingdom.
Overall, these comprehensive efforts reflect advanced levels of intellectual property protection in Saudi Arabia. By tackling both physical and digital infringements while promoting awareness and collaboration, the Kingdom is building a robust framework for intellectual property rights.
