Saudi Arabia Advances International Water Resources Management Initiatives At MOP 10 In Slovenia

Saudi Arabia is expanding its vision for water management beyond traditional methods. The country aims to tackle environmental challenges by sharing expertise and building capacity. This was highlighted during the Tenth Meeting of the Parties to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (MOP 10). The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture represented Saudi Arabia at this event.

The Saudi delegation, led by Deputy Minister for Water Dr. Abdulaziz Alshaibani, included experts from the ministry. Dr. Alshaibani stated, "Saudi Arabia's establishment of the Global Water Organization underscores its efforts to enhance international action to preserve water resources through sustainable cooperation and promote innovation in financing water-related projects." He also noted Saudi Arabia's significant role in bringing water issues to the G20 agenda.

Saudi Arabia's Water Management Efforts at MOP 10

The MOP 10 meeting featured a session titled "Our Waters, Our Future: Transboundary Water Cooperation to Power Climate Resilience." This session aimed to make decisions and review the third report on implementing the Water Convention. Discussions focused on cooperation in transboundary waters to boost climate resilience and sustainable development.

Taking place from October 23 to 25, 2024, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, MOP 10 is organized by Slovenia's Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning. The event is held in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Water Convention under the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). Over 500 representatives from around 80 countries are participating.

Saudi Arabia's participation at MOP 10 reflects its commitment to transboundary cooperation for sustainable development. By placing water issues on international agendas like the G20, Saudi Arabia demonstrates its belief in regional integration through shared water resource management.

The Kingdom's approach includes fostering international partnerships to address common environmental challenges. This strategy aims not only at improving water security but also at enhancing overall water management practices globally.

Through initiatives like the Global Water Organization, Saudi Arabia seeks to promote innovative solutions for financing water projects. These efforts underscore its dedication to sustainable cooperation in preserving vital water resources worldwide.
