Saudi Arabia Launches Initiatives For Sustainable Water Solutions
In a significant move towards addressing water sustainability, Eng. Abdulrahman Abdulmohsen Alfadley, the Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, inaugurated the third session of the Saudi Water Forum on April 29. Themed "Water Sustainability Is Our Responsibility," the forum, scheduled to run until May 1 in Riyadh, aims to bring together local and international experts to deliberate on water-related issues within Saudi Arabia. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture to foster discussions on sustainable solutions in alignment with Vision 2030.
During his opening speech, Eng. Alfadley highlighted the Kingdom's proactive approach in launching several regional and global initiatives aimed at tackling water challenges. He emphasized the leadership's dedication to overcoming obstacles in the water sector, which has been instrumental in rolling out strategic projects across the nation. Alfadley pointed out that these efforts have not only advanced national objectives but have also positioned Saudi Arabia as a leader in water desalination globally.

The establishment of the Global Water Organization in Riyadh was underscored as a testament to Saudi Arabia's commitment to enhancing global water security and supporting sustainable development goals. Eng. Alfadley also noted the Kingdom's active role in organizing and hosting various forums and conferences dedicated to water issues. He announced that Riyadh would host the 11th World Water Forum in 2027, marking it as a significant international event for stakeholders in the water sector.
Eng. Alfadley concluded his remarks by addressing the challenges posed by population growth and climate change, which have escalated the demand for water. He stressed the importance of collective efforts to mitigate these challenges, aiming to secure water sustainability and ensure the provision of high-quality water for all. This approach is crucial for achieving strategic goals related to water security and underscores the shared responsibility towards water sustainability.
