Saudi Arabia And Indonesia Finalise USD 27 Billion Agreements On Clean Energy And Defence Cooperation

Saudi Arabia and Indonesia have entered into agreements valued at US$27 billion, focusing on clean energy, petrochemicals, and aviation fuel services. This collaboration was formalised during Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's visit to Saudi Arabia. The two nations aim to enhance their partnership in these sectors, reflecting a significant step in their bilateral relations.

In recent years, trade between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia has reached approximately $31.5 billion. This makes Saudi Arabia the leading trading partner for Indonesia in the region. Both countries are optimistic about finalising a Free Trade Agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Indonesia soon, following negotiations held in September 2024 and February 2025.

The energy sector is a key focus of the agreements. Both nations plan to boost cooperation in crude oil supply, petrochemicals, and sustainable energy supply chains. They are also committed to joint projects in electricity, renewable energy, and energy storage development. These initiatives aim to strengthen their energy ties further.

Technological Advancements

Emerging technologies like artificial intelligence will play a crucial role in their energy collaboration. Both countries have agreed to foster innovation ecosystems and work together on carbon circular economy technologies and clean hydrogen development. This partnership aims to drive technological advancements in the energy sector.

Defence and Security Collaboration

In defence and security, both sides are committed to enhancing cooperation on shared interests. They aim to contribute to regional and global security by combating crime, terrorism, and extremism. Their efforts include bolstering cybersecurity, sharing information, expertise, and training resources.

International Peace Efforts

Saudi Arabia and Indonesia have exchanged views on various regional and international issues. They reaffirmed their commitment to continue coordination efforts aimed at promoting international peace and security. This ongoing dialogue underscores their dedication to fostering stability on a global scale.
