Saudi Arabia’s In-House CAR-T Manufacturing At KFSHRC Signals Readiness To Lead In Biotechnology
The Chief Executive Officer of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC), Dr. Majid Alfayyadh, highlighted a significant advancement in Saudi Arabia's medical field. The hospital has begun producing and using CAR-T cell therapy locally, showcasing the Kingdom's capability to adopt advanced therapeutic technologies. This development was discussed during the Future Investment Initiative (FII9) Conference.
Dr. Alfayyadh stated that this achievement underscores the rapid expansion of Saudi research and clinical abilities. The hospital is enhancing its research and biomanufacturing ecosystem, aligning with national goals in precision medicine and gene therapy.

Dr. Alfayyadh noted that this transformation is supported by a comprehensive research, regulatory, and investment environment attracting top international partners. The Saudi Food and Drug Authority's swift clinical trial approvals, sometimes within 60 days, highlight effective governance.
Building a robust biotechnology sector requires modern infrastructure, continuous investment, and adaptable regulations to foster innovation. Dr. Alfayyadh emphasized that integrating research, development, clinical trials, and commercialization is crucial for the Kingdom's biotechnology growth.
International partnerships are vital for developing Saudi Arabia's biotechnology sector. The Kingdom is forming strategic alliances with leading research centers and global firms to share knowledge and transfer technology. This strengthens its position in the global bio-innovation ecosystem while advancing Vision 2030 goals to localize biopharma.
Dr. Alfayyadh stressed that national talent is essential for a sustainable biotechnology sector. Saudi Arabia invests in training new scientists through scholarships and specialized programs. A national GMP-compliant facility will be launched within two years to boost biosufficiency and support an innovation-driven healthcare economy.
