Saudi Arabia Implements 357 Humanitarian Projects To Support Refugees Worldwide

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is reinforcing its humanitarian commitment to global refugee issues through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief). To date, KSrelief has executed 3,438 projects across 107 countries, with a total expenditure surpassing $7.939 billion. Among these, 357 initiatives focus on aiding refugees, costing nearly $497 million, and are distributed across Yemen, Somalia, Syria, Myanmar, Palestine, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

These projects address critical areas such as food security, health services, shelter provision, education access, and protection measures. This comprehensive support comes at a time when the global refugee population is rising significantly. Reports highlight that 52% of refugees originate from just three countries: Syria with approximately 6.5 million refugees; Afghanistan with around 5.7 million; and Ukraine also with about 5.7 million refugees.

Saudi Arabia's Humanitarian Efforts for Refugees

In addition to international efforts, Saudi Arabia hosts refugees from Syria, Yemen, and Myanmar. These groups make up roughly 5.5% of the Kingdom's population. The country offers them free education and healthcare services while facilitating their employment and integration into society under a policy that respects human rights and values charity.

The Kingdom's actions align with its leading humanitarian role and coincide with World Refugee Day on June 20 each year. Established by the United Nations in 2000, this day aims to raise awareness about the millions forced to flee their homes worldwide. Saudi Arabia's assistance underscores its ongoing commitment to enhancing its humanitarian influence regionally and globally through effective partnerships.

Saudi Arabia's initiatives are particularly significant given that 76% of displaced individuals reside in low- or middle-income nations. This situation adds complexity to the humanitarian challenges faced by these countries. The Kingdom's efforts aim to alleviate this burden by prioritising human rights and dignity through sustainable initiatives.

Saudi Arabia continues to strengthen its regional and international humanitarian role through effective partnerships and sustainable initiatives that prioritize human rights and dignity at their core.
