Saudi Arabia Continues To Excel In G20 ICT Development Rankings

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has achieved the second position among G20 countries in the 2024 ICT Development Index, as reported by the United Nations International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This marks the second consecutive year that Saudi Arabia has secured this ranking. The index evaluates digital progress and development in 170 countries through sub-indicators divided into two main areas: inclusive and effective communication.

Saudi Arabia also claimed the top spot among G20 nations in the meaningful communication category and ranked second in inclusive communication. This achievement underscores the Kingdom's ongoing efforts to enhance its communication and technology sector. These efforts have significantly contributed to its global ranking and bolstered its leadership in international indices related to digital development.

The Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) highlighted that Saudi Arabia's consistent improvement in the index reflects the robustness of its digital infrastructure. The Kingdom's communication and technology market is valued at SR166 billion, making it the largest and fastest-growing market in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The penetration rate of mobile subscriptions in Saudi Arabia has reached an impressive 198% of the population. Additionally, the average monthly data consumption per person in the Kingdom is three times higher than the global average. These statistics indicate a highly developed digital landscape that supports extensive usage of information and communication technology services.

The ITU's ICT Development Index measures digital development by assessing various aspects of digital infrastructure strength. The index provides comprehensive and transparent data, developed collaboratively with member states and expert teams.
