Saudi Arabia Hosts Global Symposium For Regulators (GSR25) With Over 190 Countries Participating
Saudi Arabia, through the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST), is hosting the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR25) in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This event, themed "Regulation for Sustainable Digital Development," will occur in Riyadh from August 31 to September 3. It aims to gather ministers, regulatory heads, policymakers, private sector leaders, and ICT stakeholders from over 190 countries.
The symposium will feature high-level discussions on strategic priorities. These include enhancing collaborative digital regulation and promoting digital inclusion via innovative frameworks. Other focal points are building trust in digital environments, user protection, boosting human capacity in emerging technologies, and developing forward-thinking regulatory models for a sustainable digital future.

Acting Governor of CST Haytham AlOhali expressed that Saudi Arabia's role as host signifies global confidence in its leadership within the digital sector. He stated: "Saudi Arabia's hosting of GSR25 reflects the international community's trust in the Kingdom's leadership in the digital realm and its contributions toward achieving the goals of the ITU." He emphasised Saudi Arabia's commitment to advancing sustainable digital development and fostering inclusive solutions to connect people worldwide.
Since its inception 25 years ago, the symposium has been a crucial platform for dialogue among regulators and policymakers globally. It facilitates knowledge sharing and promotes best regulatory practices across ICT sectors. AlOhali noted that this event consistently provides opportunities for exchanging expertise and fostering innovation.
Secretary-General of the ITU Doreen Bogdan-Martin highlighted GSR's significant role over 25 years in shaping digital regulation amidst technological advancements. She remarked: "For 25 years, GSR has played a key role in shaping digital regulation through major technological advances—from the rise of mobile and Internet services to the emergence of artificial intelligence." She urged continued commitment to connecting everyone globally while promoting innovation and social good.
Dr. Cosmas Zavazava, Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, described GSR as a guiding force for global regulation over a quarter-century. He said: "For a quarter of a century, GSR has served as the world's regulatory compass." He acknowledged Saudi Arabia's CST for hosting this pivotal event.
