Saudi Arabia Welcomes Global Talents For The 56th International Chemistry Olympiad

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is set to host the 56th edition of the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) from July 21 to July 30. This event will see participation from over 340 students and 400 chemistry university professors and teachers from 90 countries. The competition is organized by the Ministry of Education, the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), and King Saud University, with exclusive sponsorship from the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC).

The competitions will be held at King Saud University. IChO is a prominent global scientific competition for high school students with a talent for chemistry. Its objectives include stimulating students' interest in chemistry through solving independent and creative problems, enhancing international communication in the field, fostering friendships among young science enthusiasts, promoting collaboration among students, and exchanging educational and scientific expertise.

Saudi Hosts Chemistry Olympiad

Mawhiba Secretary-General and Chair of the Supervisory Committee for the Olympiad Dr. Amal bint Abdullah Al-Hazzaa emphasized that hosting the chemistry Olympiad reflects the support and attention given by Saudi leadership to talent, science, and innovation. She noted that the event underscores the Kingdom's commitment to improving its regional and international standing and nurturing globally competitive Saudi citizens, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030.

Dr. Al-Hazzaa mentioned that Mawhiba has prepared for this significant scientific event by working on various parallel tracks. These include strengthening coordination with partners to ensure exceptional hosting that befits the Kingdom's stature and preparing talented students for strong competition to achieve new national successes.

International Recognition

Members of the IChO International Steering Committee who visited Riyadh praised the level of readiness and preparations for this highly anticipated scientific event. This marks the first time Saudi Arabia is hosting the Olympiad since it began participating in it. The committee members highlighted their observations during a meeting with Minister of Education Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Benyan, who launched the promotional campaign for IChO in January. The meeting was also attended by Mawhiba secretary-general and supervisory committee members.

The Kingdom's efforts in organizing such a prestigious event demonstrate its dedication to fostering scientific talent and international collaboration in education. The upcoming IChO promises to be a significant milestone in Saudi Arabia's journey towards achieving its educational and scientific goals.
