Saudi Arabia has achieved the highest growth in international tourism among G20 countries during the first seven months of this year, according to the United Nations Tourism Organization. The Kingdom saw a 73% increase in international tourists and a 207% rise in tourism revenues compared to the same period in 2019, as highlighted in the organization's September 2024 World Tourism Barometer report.

In 2023, Saudi Arabia attracted approximately 27.4 million visitors, marking a 56% increase from 2019 figures. This surge positioned the Kingdom at the top of the UN list for tourism growth among major destinations. The travel sector's surplus reached SAR48 billion in 2023, showing a 38% year-on-year rise.

Saudi Arabia Leads G20 in Tourism Growth

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) praised Saudi Arabia's tourism achievements in its 2024 Article IV Consultation report. The IMF highlighted how tourism is crucial to diversifying the Kingdom's economy under Saudi Vision 2030. The sector has become pivotal for growth, especially within services, contributing significantly to GDP and job creation.

Saudi Arabia welcomed around 17.5 million international tourists from January to July this year. This reflects a substantial boost in global interest and confidence in its diverse tourism offerings. The continuous rise in tourist numbers underscores Saudi Arabia's status as an emerging global tourism hub.

The Kingdom's remarkable achievements have not gone unnoticed on the global stage. The IMF acknowledged these accomplishments as part of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economic base beyond oil dependency. Tourism has emerged as a key driver of this transformation.

The increase in visitor numbers and spending highlights Saudi Arabia's appeal as a premier destination. The country's efforts to enhance its tourism infrastructure and offerings are paying off, attracting more international attention and investment.

These developments reflect Saudi Arabia's commitment to becoming a leading player in global tourism. By focusing on diverse attractions and experiences, the Kingdom continues to draw tourists from around the world, boosting its economy and international standing.
