Saudi Arabia Invests Over $500 Million In Health Initiatives For A Polio-Free World
Saudi Arabia, through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), underscores its global role in health sector support and disease control as it observes World Polio Day on October 24. The Kingdom's initiatives demonstrate its dedication to eradicating polio by providing vaccinations, conducting awareness campaigns, and offering medical and logistical aid in collaboration with international health bodies.
In 2025, Saudi Arabia signed two agreements to combat polio in countries needing assistance. These agreements provided over $500 million to protect 370 million children annually. The first agreement allocated $300 million to support the World Health Organization (WHO) in high-risk areas, focusing on preventive measures, technical support, and surveillance activities aimed at eliminating poliovirus in endemic regions like Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The second agreement involved $200 million directed towards the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). This funding supported high-risk countries by enhancing supply chains, procuring vaccines, carriers, and solar-powered refrigeration units. It also aided primary healthcare centers, vaccination drives, and community engagement through health education programs.
Saudi Arabia's efforts reflect its commitment to eradicating polio globally. By marking World Polio Day, KSrelief contributes to international efforts aimed at reducing the severe health impacts of polio on individuals and communities. The Kingdom also raises awareness about the serious consequences of this disease.
The first agreement not only supports WHO's work but also aids national programs nearing eradication. It strengthens global health systems by improving preventive strategies and providing essential resources to eliminate the virus. This comprehensive approach ensures targeted countries receive necessary supplies for effective virus elimination.
Saudi Arabia's participation in these initiatives highlights its dedication to global health improvement. Through KSrelief, the Kingdom plays a crucial role in supporting international efforts to eradicate polio completely and mitigate its impact on public health worldwide.
