Saudi Arabia Declares Eid Al Adha and Hajj Dates After Moon Sighting
The Saudi Supreme Court has confirmed the sighting of the crescent moon, which signals the start of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah. This sighting occurred on Thursday, June 6, marking the end of Dhul Qa'adah.
The court also announced on Thursday that Standing at Arafat, which marks the pinnacle of the annual pilgrimage of Hajj, will be on Saturday, June 15 and June 16 Sunday is the first day of the Eid Al-Adha celebrations, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The Supreme Court announced that Friday, June 7, is the first day of Dhul Hijjah, the month during which Hajj takes place. The court said that this follows the testimony given by a number of witnesses about their sighting of the crescent moon in the evening of Thursday, Dhul Qada 29 according to the Umm Al-Qura calendar, corresponding to June 6.
Muslims in Saudi Arabia, who are not performing Hajj, will start celebration of Eid Al-Adha on June 16 when pilgrims will engage in performing four main rituals of Hajj on that day, which is also known as the “Day of Sacrifice" (Youm Al-Nahr). The Supreme Court prayed to God Almighty to enable the pilgrims to perform their rituals of Hajj in ease and comfort and ensure their safety and protection.
