Saudi Arabia And Greece Parliaments Deepen Ties Through Strategic Parliamentary Diplomacy

Vice Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Mishaal Al-Sulami met First Vice President of the Hellenic Parliament Ioannis Plakiotakis in Athens, during an official visit to Greece. The visit took place at the invitation of the vice president of the Hellenic Parliament, and focused on deepening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

At the start of the talks, Ioannis Plakiotakis reviewed the long history of ties between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Hellenic Republic. Plakiotakis underlined that these bilateral relations have now reached a strategic level, especially in the parliamentary field, and stressed shared interests between the two friendly states.

Plakiotakis highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in consolidating cooperation, noting that both sides support each other at various levels. Plakiotakis stated that Saudi Arabia is a leading nation with a prominent position regionally and globally, pointing to major developments across many sectors, and expressed a wish to keep advancing and reinforcing bilateral relations.

For Dr. Mishaal Al-Sulami, the discussions provided an opportunity to mark one hundred years since the establishment of friendly relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Hellenic Republic. Al-Sulami noted that relations entered a new phase with the launch of the Strategic Partnership Council, whose first meeting was held in AlUla last January.

Al-Sulami explained that the Shura Council gives strong attention to strengthening cooperation with the Hellenic Parliament, especially through active parliamentary diplomacy. This includes reciprocal visits and the work of parliamentary friendship committees. The meeting ended with both sides examining issues of mutual concern, particularly parliamentary affairs.
