Saudi Arabia Hosts FII9 Conference, Unveils King Salman Gate And Secures Diplomatic Recognition For Kosova

The latter part of October was a notable period for Saudi Arabia, marked by significant strategic activities. The Kingdom hosted a major global investment summit, unveiled a transformative project in Makkah, and achieved a diplomatic milestone in the region. These events highlighted Saudi Arabia's rapid economic diversification and its growing influence as both a global and regional leader.

The ninth Future Investment Initiative (FII9) conference was a focal point, attracting over 9,000 delegates to Riyadh. This event reinforced its reputation as a leading platform for international collaboration. PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan revealed that the platform has facilitated deals exceeding $250 billion since its inception. Investment Minister Khalid Al-Falih shared that 40% of the national budget now comes from non-oil revenues, with foreign direct investment having quadrupled.

Saudi Arabia's FII9 and Makkah Mega-Project

HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud announced the King Salman Gate project in Makkah. This multi-use development will be located near the Grand Mosque and cover up to 12 million square meters. It aims to provide around 900,000 prayer spaces and create over 300,000 jobs by 2036.

In another significant development, Saudi Arabia welcomed Syria's recognition of Kosova following a historic trilateral meeting in Riyadh. This meeting involved HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, and Kosovan President Vjosa Osmani. The Kingdom expressed optimism that this step would enhance bilateral cooperation and prosperity.

Saudi Arabia recorded robust real GDP growth of 5.0% in the third quarter of 2025, driven by a 4.5% increase in non-oil activities. Additionally, Riyadh Season 2025 attracted one million visitors within its first 13 days, solidifying its status as a major global entertainment event.

The Kingdom also made strides in mineral exploration with an annual spending of SAR1.05 billion in 2024, marking a fivefold increase over four years. The Saudi EXIM Bank reached SAR100 billion in total credit facilities since 2020 to support non-oil exports.

Renewable Energy and Healthcare Advances

Five new renewable energy projects were awarded with a total capacity of 4,500 megawatts, including setting a world record for the lowest cost of wind energy. In healthcare, King Faisal Specialist Hospital achieved a one-year kidney graft survival rate of 99%, ranking it among the world's best centers.

Saudi Aramco secured an $11 billion Jafurah midstream leaseback deal with an international consortium led by GIP/BlackRock. A new MoU valued at $6.8 billion was signed between the PIF and UK Export Finance to encourage UK company involvement in Saudi projects.

Public Health Initiatives

Saudi Arabia contributed over $500 million in 2025 to support global efforts to eradicate polio. The percentage of physically active individuals in Saudi Arabia rose to 60%, up from just 13% in 2018.

The Global Health Exhibition saw partnerships and investments totaling SAR133 billion announced, reinforcing Saudi Arabia's position as a leading global healthcare destination.

Agricultural Sector Contributions

The agricultural sector contributed $31.5 billion to Saudi Arabia's GDP in 2024. Meanwhile, the FII PRIORITY Compass survey conducted across 32 countries found that the cost of living is now the top global concern among respondents.

This period underscored significant economic and diplomatic developments for Saudi Arabia. The FII9 conference facilitated major investment deals across AI, energy, and finance sectors while coinciding with strong Q3 GDP growth figures of 5%.
