Saudi Arabia Establishes Integrated Sustainable Framework For Water Security Amid Arid Conditions

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in Saudi Arabia has confirmed the successful establishment of a sustainable water security model. This achievement is notable given the country's desert environment. The success is credited to the leadership's support and investments in desalination and water networks, ensuring reliable water supply for society and various sectors.

Dr. Abdulaziz AlShaibani, Deputy Minister for Water, highlighted these achievements during a global dialogue session in Indonesia. The session, titled "From Bali to Riyadh and Beyond," reviewed outcomes from the tenth World Water Forum held in Bali in May 2024. The forum was attended by leaders, ministers, and officials from 160 countries, along with international organizations.

Dr. AlShaibani explained that Saudi Arabia's advanced water system is often likened to underground rivers. This system results from visionary leadership aiming to bolster the sector's capabilities. Water security is central to the Kingdom's development strategies, aligning with Vision 2030 goals to enhance life quality and promote economic growth.

He stressed that global water challenges require collective international efforts. Water is crucial for stability and development, necessitating collaboration among countries and organizations to devise innovative solutions. Sharing experiences and best practices through platforms like the Water Forum is vital for addressing water scarcity sustainably.

The Kingdom believes that international cooperation is essential for managing water resources effectively. By participating in forums like the one hosted by Indonesia, countries can exchange valuable insights and strategies. This collaboration helps tackle complex water issues globally.

At the end of his address, Dr. AlShaibani expressed gratitude to Indonesia for its exceptional hosting of the forum's tenth edition. Such events play a crucial role in fostering dialogue and cooperation among nations on pressing water issues.
