Saudi Arabia's Ministry Of Human Resources Strengthens Worker Rights And Labour Standards Initiatives

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is committed to upholding human rights for both its citizens and residents. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development is at the forefront, enhancing the Kingdom's role through partnerships and adopting global best practices. These efforts aim to protect human rights and workers' rights within the labour market.

At the start of 2025, a significant milestone was reached with the Cabinet's approval of the National Policy for the Elimination of Forced Labour. This policy is pioneering in both the Gulf and Arab regions. It strives to create a safe environment for all workers, ensuring a secure and appealing labour market that upholds all rights. Strict regulations are in place to eradicate forced labour in all its forms.

Saudi Arabia Enhances Worker Rights Initiatives

The policy includes several guiding principles, such as improving working conditions and fostering collaboration among authorities to combat forced labour. A victim-centred approach underpins support services, while non-discrimination, equality promotion, respect for human rights, and anti-discrimination efforts are emphasized.

The National Policy to Encourage Equal Opportunities and Equal Treatment in Employment and Occupation also plays a crucial role. It aims to eliminate discrimination in employment, aligning with Islamic law and international treaties that Saudi Arabia has ratified.

The ministry's commitment extends to occupational safety through initiatives like banning work under direct sunlight. This year saw 94% compliance among establishments, with inspection teams conducting 29,121 field visits. Monitoring campaigns ensure adherence to this decision, imposing penalties on those who fail to comply.

In social care, regulations focus on protecting vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities and the elderly. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development aims to guarantee their rights and provide equal access to services, promoting their well-being and quality of life.

These comprehensive efforts reflect Saudi Arabia's dedication to safeguarding human rights across various sectors. By implementing these policies and initiatives, the Kingdom continues to foster an environment where justice, transparency, and equality prevail.
