Saudi Arabia's Commitment To Global Cooperation And Food Security At G20 Summit In Brazil

Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Alfadley stated that Saudi Arabia's involvement in the G20 Summit in Brazil highlights its significant role in regional and global development, particularly concerning environmental matters. He emphasised the Kingdom's leadership in supporting the group's objectives related to food security, sustainable development, and climate change.

Alfadley noted Saudi Arabia's focus on enhancing international cooperation within the G20 framework. The Kingdom aims to promote sustainable development and foster innovation across various sectors. These efforts are crucial as the summit gathers representatives from major global economies to achieve shared goals.

The minister highlighted Saudi Arabia's commitment to food security, agricultural trade, and rural development. These areas are vital for achieving comprehensive global economic stability. The Kingdom addresses issues like food price stability and trade restrictions affecting supply chains and production inputs.

During the G20 Agriculture Ministers' meetings, discussions centred on sustainable agriculture and diverse food systems. Enhancing global trade's role in food security was a key topic. The meetings also underscored family farming, smallholders, and local communities' contributions to building healthy, sustainable food systems.

Saudi Arabia has set an example globally by addressing water issues through initiatives like the G20 Water Platform and the Global Water Organization. Alfadley noted that the Kingdom continues to play a significant role in tackling global water security challenges.

The ministry has implemented strategies to overcome obstacles facing sustainable agricultural development and food security. The Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program empowers small farmers and rural communities, impacting over 120,000 beneficiaries in 2023. It aims to reach more than 200,000 beneficiaries by 2026.

Financial Support for Agricultural Growth

The ministry has facilitated access to financing, increasing it by an average of 75% over four years to boost agricultural activities. This effort led to a 35% rise in Saudi Arabia's agricultural GDP. Additionally, an initial $10 billion contribution through Arab Coordination Group institutions aligns with global food security objectives.

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has completed over 900 food security projects across 78 countries. Financial support is also allocated for agricultural investment abroad in nations with high production capacity and natural resources.

Vision 2030 Alignment

Alfadley emphasised that Saudi Vision 2030 aligns with G20 objectives through themes of a vibrant society, thriving economy, and ambitious nation. The vision focuses on enhancing human capital, attracting investments, preserving natural resources sustainably, and ensuring food security.

The Kingdom's participation in the G20 Summit supports Vision 2030 goals by promoting innovation and increasing small and medium enterprises' contributions to the national economy. Saudi Arabia aims to play a pivotal role in fostering entrepreneurship globally while exchanging experiences with other G20 countries.

These initiatives aim to build a thriving Saudi economy based on knowledge and innovation while contributing positively to global economic stability.
