Saudi Arabia's Pioneering Demining Efforts In Yemen: A Lifesaving Mission

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has positioned itself as a pivotal player in the global humanitarian field, particularly through the efforts of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief). Among its wide array of initiatives, KSrelief has placed a significant emphasis on the landmine crisis in Yemen, demonstrating a commitment to both immediate and long-term solutions in the war-torn country.

Launched in 2018, the "Masam" project by KSrelief has been at the forefront of efforts to clear Yemeni lands of mines. The initiative has seen remarkable success, with over 435,000 randomly planted mines removed to date. This endeavor not only clears the land but also significantly reduces the risk to civilian lives, showcasing KSrelief's dedication to creating safer environments for affected communities.

Understanding the profound impact that landmine injuries can have on individuals, KSrelief has also established the "Prosthetic Limbs Program". This program is a testament to the center's holistic approach to humanitarian aid, offering not just prosthetic limb fitting and maintenance but also comprehensive physical and psychological rehabilitation services. Since its inception in 2020, the program has provided over 206,000 free services, aiding more than 56,000 people across various Yemeni governorates in regaining mobility and hope.

Global Collaboration

In observance of World Mine Awareness Day, KSrelief aligns with the international community to highlight the dangers posed by landmines. The center advocates for enhanced global cooperation to tackle this issue head-on. By focusing on protecting civilians, training local personnel, and addressing the suffering caused by landmine injuries, KSrelief underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in mitigating the humanitarian impact of landmines worldwide.

KSrelief's initiatives extend beyond Yemen, impacting lives in 98 countries across essential sectors. However, its targeted efforts in Yemen, particularly through projects like "Masam" and the "Prosthetic Limbs Program", highlight a dedicated approach to addressing both immediate needs and long-term challenges posed by landmines. As KSrelief continues its work, it remains a beacon of hope for many around the globe, emphasizing the power of humanitarian aid in transforming lives.
