Saudi Arabia's Adel Al-Jubeir Emphasises Commitment To Global Environmental Challenges At SGI Forum

Adel Al-Jubeir, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Climate Envoy, took part in a dialogue at the Saudi Green Initiative Forum. This event coincided with COP16 of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification in Riyadh. Al-Jubeir highlighted Saudi Arabia's commitment to enhancing global cooperation to address environmental and climate challenges, emphasizing its dedication to supporting worldwide efforts for sustainable development.

Al-Jubeir pointed out that Saudi Arabia, like many countries, faces global issues such as climate change, land degradation, and water resource management. He emphasized the Kingdom's commitment to conserving natural resources through various means. He noted that land degradation is seen not only as an environmental issue but also as a security challenge globally.

The minister discussed several Saudi programs aimed at environmental conservation and combating land degradation. These initiatives include diversifying energy sources by increasing renewable energy use to 50% by 2030. Additionally, Saudi Arabia aims to protect 30% of its land and water areas by the same year while adopting advanced tree planting techniques.

Al-Jubeir stressed the importance of diversifying investments and focusing on environmental protection to achieve the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030. These efforts are integral to the National Red Sea Sustainability Strategy led by HRH the Crown Prince. The strategy aims to balance recreational and economic uses of the Red Sea with environmental sustainability.

He concluded by affirming Saudi Arabia's dedication to environmental development through initiatives like establishing green parks and launching both the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative. Al-Jubeir highlighted significant investments in reducing carbon emissions and meeting high environmental standards.

"Saudi Arabia is committed to working with the international community to achieve sustainability goals," he stated. This collaboration is crucial for addressing global environmental challenges effectively.
