Saudi Arabia's Date Exports Surge 14% In 2023, Achieving SAR1.462 Billion In Value
In a recent announcement by the National Center for Palms and Dates (NCPD), Saudi Arabia's date exports have seen a significant uptick, marking a 14% increase in 2023, with the export value reaching SAR1.462 billion, up from SAR1.280 billion in the previous year. This growth underscores the kingdom's expanding influence in the global date market.
The number of countries importing dates from Saudi Arabia has broadened to 119 by the end of 2023. Since 2016, the total value of date and date-byproduct exports has surged by 152.5%, climbing from SAR579 million to SAR1.462 billion in 2023. This remarkable growth translates to a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.3%.

Dr. Mohammed Alnuwairan, Chief Executive of NCPD, attributes this success to the concerted efforts among the leadership, date producers, exporters, and public-sector agencies. These efforts include participation in both local and international exhibitions, organizing business missions, simplifying export procedures, and fostering partnerships with the private sector under a cohesive strategy designed to bolster date exports.
Alnuwairan also pointed out significant advancements in the quality and production of processed date products. These improvements, coupled with robust local and international marketing campaigns, are poised to enhance the global standing of Saudi dates further.
Notably, exports to China experienced a dramatic increase of 121% in 2023 compared to the previous year. France saw a 16% rise in imports of Saudi dates. Additionally, Singapore and Korea have shown considerable interest, with import increases of 86% and 24%, respectively.
The NCPD, in partnership with the private sector, is ambitious about positioning Saudi dates as the top choice for consumers worldwide. The strategy encompasses expanding national exports of dates and date byproducts, refining agricultural and industrial practices for better quality, offering vital marketing services and industry information, and supporting the date sector through various initiatives.
This strategic approach not only aims at enhancing the quality and market reach of Saudi dates but also at ensuring that Saudi Arabia remains at the forefront of global date production and exportation.
