Saudi Arabia Highlights Commitment To Protecting Rights Of Conjoined Twins On World Conjoined Twins Day

Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, an advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), underscored the importance of the United Nations' decision to mark November 24 as World Conjoined Twins Day. This initiative, supported by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, highlights Saudi Arabia's dedication to public health and the rights of conjoined twins.

During a New York City event titled "From Words to Action: A World Fit for Conjoined Twins and Children with Disabilities," co-hosted by KSrelief and UNICEF, Dr. Al Rabeeah pointed out that children with disabilities are among the most vulnerable groups worldwide, especially during crises. He noted that healthcare systems often struggle to provide essential diagnostics and treatments, increasing the challenges faced by these children and their families.

Saudi Arabia Supports Rights of Conjoined Twins

Since 1990, Saudi Arabia has prioritized the surgical separation of conjoined twins through its Saudi Conjoined Twins Programme. This program has evaluated 152 cases from 28 countries, successfully performing 67 complex separations. Dr. Al Rabeeah emphasized the necessity of continuous post-surgery care, which includes medical, rehabilitative, and educational support for these children.

Dr. Al Rabeeah concluded by urging a collective effort to enhance support systems for children with disabilities. He stressed that these efforts should ensure not only survival but also thriving conditions for these children. He expressed optimism that discussions would result in meaningful improvements for all children with disabilities.
