Saudi Arabia Reinforces Commitment To Global Cooperation For Labour Market Growth At ILC

Saudi Arabia's Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, Ahmed Al-Rajhi, led the country's delegation at the 113th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva. The delegation included representatives from the government, employers, and workers. Al-Rajhi highlighted the significance of international collaboration in shaping the future of work amid global changes and challenges.

Saudi Arabia presented key labour market reforms under Vision 2030 at the conference. These initiatives have enhanced alignment with international labour standards, improved workplace environments, and promoted labour rights. Notable reforms include a labour mobility system for expatriates and the Wages Protection System.

Saudi Arabia's Commitment to Labour Market Growth

The Kingdom has also focused on increasing women's economic participation, aiming to reach 35.5% by the end of 2024. Additionally, Article 61 of the Labour Law was amended to prohibit discrimination in all forms. These efforts reflect Saudi Arabia's commitment to fostering an inclusive workforce.

Al-Rajhi discussed how technological advancements, climate change, and demographic shifts are affecting jobs globally. He stressed that achieving social justice and sustainable development requires strengthening global solidarity and expanding cooperation among nations and stakeholders in the labour market.

He also emphasised a balanced approach to managing digital transformation's impact on employment. This involves safeguarding traditional jobs while preparing national talent for future roles. The Kingdom is developing AI-powered inspection systems for early risk detection and resolution.

Occupational Health and Safety

Saudi Arabia has modernised its occupational health and safety frameworks, achieving compliance rates of 72.6%. These measures aim to create safer working environments across various sectors. The ILC agenda this year includes adopting standards to protect workers from biological hazards.

The conference also addresses regulating working conditions for platform economy workers and tackling informal work challenges. Al-Rajhi reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's belief that dialogue and cooperation are essential for addressing these issues effectively.

The Kingdom remains committed to advancing its labour market through strategic reforms and international collaboration. By focusing on inclusivity, safety, and adaptability, Saudi Arabia aims to navigate global transformations successfully while ensuring sustainable development.
