Saudi Arabia Chairs 124th Executive Council Meeting Of ALECSO In Cairo With Focus On Sustainability And Support For Palestine

The 124th session of the Executive Council of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) commenced in Cairo, chaired by Saudi Arabia. Hani bin Moqbel Al-Moqbel, Chairman of the ALECSO Executive Council, highlighted Saudi Arabia's enduring commitment to the organization since its inception. He acknowledged the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in this regard.

Al-Moqbel emphasised that Saudi Arabia's approach to leading the Executive Council prioritises cooperation and partnership. The focus is on long-term investments rather than immediate gains. This vision aims to address issues with a sustainable perspective, reshaping ALECSO's future work by enhancing public-policy formulation and implementation among member states, the General Secretariat, and partners.

The session is taking place amid challenging times for Palestinians. Al-Moqbel reaffirmed the council's unwavering support for Gaza and condemned ongoing aggression. He urged the international community to denounce these violations and halt Israeli attacks that threaten regional security and stability.

During the two-day session, various critical topics will be discussed, reflecting Arab educational and cultural priorities. These include issues concerning Jerusalem and Palestine's educational and cultural situation. The discussions will also cover educational needs during conflicts, disasters, emergencies, sustainable development, digital transformation, educational media roles, and developing cultural industries in the Arab world.

Al-Moqbel stressed that Saudi Arabia's vision for ALECSO leadership focuses on sustainability over mere achievements. Efforts are directed towards reshaping ALECSO’s future work by concentrating on public-policy formulation among member states and partners.

The session underscores Saudi Arabia's dedication to fostering cooperation within ALECSO under exceptional circumstances. The Kingdom’s leadership aims to ensure that efforts are aligned with long-term goals rather than short-term outcomes.
