Saudi Arabia Joins Paris Parade To Highlight UN's Year Of Camelids
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recently marked its presence at the "camel parade" in Paris, France, an event organized by the French Federation for the Development of Camelids in France and Europe. This significant gathering was held in celebration of the United Nations' declaration of 2024 as the "International Year of Camelids." The parade, under the auspices of the International Camel Organization and with backing from the Saudi Ministry of Culture and the Camel Club of the Kingdom, saw a convergence of international organizations, government officials, camel breeders, and aficionados.
Highlighting the Kingdom's "Year of the Camel 2024" initiative, Saudi Arabia's involvement aimed to acquaint the global community with the cultural emblem of the camel, a symbol deeply ingrained in Saudi heritage and still pivotal today. This year's parade, marking its third occurrence but a historic return to Paris streets since 1926, featured a procession past the Château de Vincennes. The event attracted participation from over thirty countries, including the United States, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Canada, India, Morocco among others, showcasing over fifty camels alongside traditional performances.

The eve of the parade was dedicated to dialogue sessions at the Château de Janvry Historical Center, focusing on global camel heritage and fostering collaboration through knowledge exchange. These sessions culminated in a reception for guests from international organizations, academia, research centers, private sector entities, country delegations, and media representatives.
Saudi Arabia's engagement in this event extends from its pivotal role in initiating the International Year of Camelids 2024 through the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). This initiative highlights Saudi Arabia's dedication to advancing the camel sector as a contributor to food security and economic growth. The Ministry of Culture's participation underscores its commitment to promoting cultural exchange and raising awareness about camels' economic and cultural significance. This aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 strategic objectives.
