Saudi Arabia Advocates For Enhanced Collaboration To Improve Emergency Response Effectiveness

The United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) advisory group recently wrapped up its meeting in New York City. Nineteen representatives from member nations, including Saudi Arabia, participated. Aqeel Jamaan Al Ghamdi, Assistant Supervisor General for Planning and Development at the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), represented Saudi Arabia. He praised the collective efforts of all involved countries.

Al Ghamdi stressed the importance of incorporating field insights to improve CERF's responses and programs. He suggested creating mechanisms for shared learning among member states to enhance performance and expand field successes. Additionally, he highlighted the need to strengthen CERF resources through innovative financing methods like Islamic social financing and urged greater private sector involvement.

Saudi Arabia Calls for Better Emergency Response Collaboration

UN Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher provided an overview of the global humanitarian landscape during the discussions. He detailed the humanitarian needs assessment and outlined the United Nations' efforts in this area. Participants examined how CERF has positively impacted countries by enhancing their humanitarian responses.

Al Ghamdi proposed using CERF's upcoming 20th anniversary as a platform to raise awareness about its vital role. He suggested organizing media events in New York, Geneva, and beneficiary nations to highlight CERF's achievements. This initiative aims to increase collaboration between donor countries, the private sector, and humanitarian organizations for a more comprehensive response.

The meeting concluded with a session that focused on recommendations made during discussions and outlined future priorities. Al Ghamdi commended CERF's contribution to improving millions of lives worldwide and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's ongoing commitment to supporting international humanitarian efforts.

Throughout the meeting, participants explored real-life examples demonstrating how countries have benefited from CERF's assistance. These illustrations showcased tangible impacts on the ground, emphasizing the fund's role in enhancing global humanitarian responses.

Al Ghamdi emphasized that strengthening collaboration between donor nations, private sectors, and humanitarian organizations is crucial for ensuring effective responses. He also advocated for increased engagement from various sectors to support CERF's mission effectively.

"The fund has played a significant role in improving lives globally," Al Ghamdi stated, affirming Saudi Arabia's dedication to international humanitarian initiatives. His remarks underscored the importance of continued support for CERF's mission.

The meeting served as a platform for representatives to discuss ways to enhance CERF's effectiveness further. By integrating field perspectives and fostering shared learning among member states, they aim to refine programs better aligned with affected communities' needs.
