Saudi Arabia Assumes Presidency Of GlobE Network To Combat Global Corruption

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has taken on the presidency of the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE Network). This transition occurred during a ceremony at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, Austria. The Kingdom was unanimously elected to lead the network for the 2025–2027 term during a high-level meeting in Beijing, China.

Saudi Arabia's leadership of this extensive international platform highlights its dedication to combating corruption. The network facilitates collaboration among law enforcement agencies worldwide to address cross-border corruption issues. This role reflects the global community's trust in Saudi Arabia's ability to enhance cooperation in prosecuting corruption-related crimes.

The GlobE Network comprises over 219 law enforcement agencies from more than 120 countries and various international organizations. The handover ceremony marked the transition of leadership from Spain’s Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecutor's Office against Corruption and Organized Crime to Dr. Nasser bin Ahmed Aba Al-Khail, Deputy of the Saudi Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority for International Cooperation.

Dr. Nasser Aba Al-Khail, Chairman of the GlobE Network, emphasized Saudi Arabia's commitment to fostering collaboration among member states to combat corruption. He stated, "The Kingdom seeks to create new strategies for asset recovery and initiate a secure communication platform to facilitate quicker and more efficient information exchange among member states."

This initiative aims to bolster international cooperation and empower governments to tackle emerging challenges in fighting corruption. It focuses on refining asset recovery processes and effectively tracing illicit funds across borders. These efforts are aligned with the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and several senior international officials. Representatives from member states also participated, underscoring the significance of this leadership transition within the network.

Saudi Arabia’s presidency underscores its ongoing dedication to strengthening international initiatives aimed at combating corruption. The Kingdom plays a crucial role in developing policies and tools necessary for addressing corruption crimes while promoting transparency and accountability globally.
