Saudi Arabia Assumes Chairmanship Of INTOSAI To Enhance Global Auditing Standards

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has secured a significant position in global public financial auditing by being elected as the chair of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI). This announcement was made during INTOSAI's 25th General Assembly, held in Sharm El-Sheikh under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt. Saudi Arabia, represented by the General Court of Audit (GCA), will lead INTOSAI from 2031 for three years.

Saudi Arabia's leadership role in INTOSAI will involve hosting delegations from over 195 countries, led by heads of supreme audit institutions (SAIs). This position allows Saudi Arabia to guide global efforts in improving transparency, governance, and government performance while building public trust in national economies. The GCA President, Dr. Hussam Alangari, expressed his congratulations to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for their support.

Saudi Arabia Takes INTOSAI Leadership Role

Dr. Hussam Alangari highlighted that this achievement reflects Saudi Arabia’s international stature and trust, enabling it to play a crucial role in advancing auditing and accountability worldwide. He noted the transformative developments within GCA, including organizational independence and methodological innovation, which have helped achieve its vision for effective audits and improved quality of life for citizens.

Saudi Arabia's involvement with INTOSAI began with its membership in 1977. Over the years, it has taken on leadership roles in various international and regional organizations. Notably, it has chaired the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) since 2022 and will chair the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) starting in 2027.

The GCA has led numerous INTOSAI committees focused on capacity building and enhancing peer SAIs' efficiency in developing countries. This reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to advancing auditing standards globally. Dr. Alangari stated: "Saudi Arabia welcomes the world in 2031, and we look forward to hosting everyone in Riyadh to shape a global future that promotes transparency, governance, and governmental effectiveness."

INTOSAI was founded over 70 years ago as a prestigious international organization uniting SAIs worldwide. It now includes more than 195 member countries working together to enhance transparency, governance, and public sector auditing with the ultimate goal of improving citizens’ lives globally.
