Saudi Arabia's ARDARA Collaborates With Parsons And OBMI On AlWadi Waterfront Development
Under the auspices of Governor of Aseer, Prince Turki bin Talal, significant agreements were established to advance AlWadi, a mixed-use waterfront project in Downtown Abha. This initiative is the flagship endeavour of ARDARA, a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund. The Aseer Region Development Authority and ARDARA collaborated with Parsons and OBMI architectural design company for engineering design tasks.
Parsons will manage the transformation of AlWadi into a year-round waterfront destination. Their responsibilities include creating lakes and waterfalls, developing sustainable infrastructure, designing rainwater and flood drainage systems, landscaping natural sites, and planning roads and transportation networks. They will also focus on communications networks and smart city solutions while enhancing public areas.

OBMI has been chosen as the primary designer for this project. Their role involves adding artistic elements to public spaces, designing vibrant waterfronts, landmarks, smart lighting systems, and signboards. The first phase of development includes constructing a luxury five-star hotel, a four-star hotel, a comprehensive health centre, elite commercial facilities, residential units with shops, green spaces, and a waterfront walkway.
The AlWadi destination covers an area of 2.5 million square metres. It will feature over 30% green spaces, 16 km of water areas, and 17 km of sports tracks. These features aim to enhance the economic, cultural, and heritage aspects of Abha city and the Aseer region.
Prince Turki expressed his appreciation for the government's backing of the Aseer Region Strategy "Qimam and Shem" (peaks and morals). He highlighted the valley's significance as an economic and cultural hub. This project is expected to boost both economic growth and cultural heritage in the region.
The strategic partnerships formed for this project are crucial for its success. By collaborating with renowned companies like Parsons and OBMI, ARDARA aims to create a sustainable and innovative urban environment that aligns with modern standards.
This development reflects a broader vision for enhancing urban living in Saudi Arabia. It aims to provide residents with improved amenities while preserving natural beauty. The project's focus on sustainability ensures that it meets environmental standards while offering modern conveniences.
