Senior parliamentary officials from Saudi Arabia and Greece have used a meeting in Athens to reaffirm strategic ties, with both sides stressing the role of parliamentary diplomacy in supporting the wider partnership between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Hellenic Republic across political and other fields.

Vice Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Mishaal Al-Sulami met First Vice President of the Hellenic Parliament Ioannis Plakiotakis during an official visit to Greece, undertaken at the invitation of the Hellenic Parliament’s vice president, as both legislatures work to deepen cooperation.

Ioannis Plakiotakis opened the talks by recalling the long-standing links between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Hellenic Republic, noting that these relations have evolved into a strategic partnership, especially at the parliamentary level, where dialogue is now frequent and increasingly structured.

Plakiotakis underlined the importance of parliamentary diplomacy as a tool to strengthen cooperation between the two friendly states, explaining that coordinated positions in international forums and mutual support in parliamentary organisations help both sides address common issues more effectively and maintain regular communication channels.

During the discussions, Plakiotakis described Saudi Arabia as a leading country with a key regional and global role, pointing to major developments under way in different sectors in the Kingdom, and expressed hope that bilateral relations would continue to grow and gain further depth.

Dr. Mishaal Al-Sulami highlighted that the two states are marking one hundred years of friendly relations, noting that this legacy has advanced further with the establishment of the Strategic Partnership Council, whose first meeting was held in AlUla in January, setting priorities for cooperation.

Al-Sulami explained that the Shura Council attaches special importance to expanding links with the Hellenic Parliament, including through reciprocal parliamentary visits and the activation of parliamentary friendship committees, and stated that both sides also reviewed several shared concerns, mainly matters related to legislative and parliamentary affairs.
