Saudi Arabia's AI Olympiad Showcases Commitment To Nurturing Young Talents In Artificial Intelligence

The Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) highlighted the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (IAIO) during the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva from July 8 to 11. This event, hosted in Riyadh, was organised by the International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics (ICAIRE) alongside SDAIA. It attracted participants from 25 countries and received a certificate of excellence at the WSIS Prizes 2025.

Rehab Alarfaj, SDAIA's General Manager of Strategic Partnerships and Indices, noted that this achievement underscores Saudi Arabia's leading role in artificial intelligence globally. She stated, "It also embodies Saudi Arabia’s commitment to developing young talents and honing their technical skills by providing an innovative competitive platform that brings together creative minds from around the world." The IAIO serves as a testament to the Kingdom's dedication to nurturing young talent and enhancing their technical expertise.

Saudi Arabia's AI Olympiad Nurtures Young Talent

Alarfaj further explained that the IAIO has helped establish Saudi Arabia as a global hub for qualitative AI initiatives. Participants had the opportunity to demonstrate their innovative skills within a supportive environment. These efforts align with Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to create a knowledge-based society and sustainable digital economy. They also support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by promoting AI awareness on an international level.

The summit session focused on advancing sustainable digital innovation, showcasing Saudi Arabia's strategy for a sustainable digital future. Representatives from various government bodies, private-sector leaders, and digital innovators from the Kingdom participated extensively. The session highlighted national efforts to boost digital innovation and develop national capacities.

Initiatives supporting environmental sustainability and comprehensive development were also discussed during the session. These initiatives emphasise public-private partnerships' crucial role in fostering responsible innovation. Such collaborations are vital for enhancing digital innovation and building national capacities in line with global sustainability goals.

The IAIO's recognition at the WSIS Prizes 2025 marks a significant milestone for Saudi Arabia in artificial intelligence. It reflects the Kingdom's pioneering position in this field globally while contributing to its vision of becoming an international leader in AI research and ethics.
