Saudi Arabia Introduces AI Curriculum For Over Six Million Students In A Transformative Educational Initiative
Saudi Arabia is embarking on a significant educational transformation, with over six million school students set to explore a new artificial intelligence (AI) curriculum in the 2025-2026 academic year. This initiative marks the country's first distinct educational experience in AI, developed collaboratively by the National Centre for Curriculum, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA).
The introduction of AI into general education is a strategic move to prepare students for future leadership roles in technology and innovation. By understanding AI's role in tackling modern digital challenges, students will be encouraged to develop creative solutions for everyday problems. This curriculum aims to equip them for advanced studies and careers in AI, significantly impacting future job markets.

This educational shift aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which focuses on building a knowledge-based society and enhancing human capital. The goal is to prepare a skilled generation capable of achieving sustainable development and competing globally in advanced technologies. By integrating AI into education, Saudi Arabia aims to strengthen its global leadership in data and AI, transforming into an economy driven by these fields.
SDAIA has played a crucial role in this initiative by collaborating with the Ministry of Education to launch programs that enhance national capabilities in data and AI across all educational levels. These efforts include local and international training initiatives led by global AI experts, aiming to elevate the Kingdom’s position among leading AI economies.
As part of this initiative, SDAIA and the Ministry of Education have issued guidelines for using generative AI responsibly in general education. These guidelines promote ethical practices while maintaining teachers' central role in supporting learning processes. The aim is to improve educational outcomes through responsible AI use.
The Saudi Academic Framework for AI Qualifications (Education Intelligence), launched by SDAIA and the Education and Training Evaluation Commission, ensures that academic institutions’ AI curricula meet global standards. This framework boosts employer confidence in the competence of AI graduates.
Expanding AI Literacy
To broaden AI literacy further, SDAIA has partnered with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development to launch the SAMAI initiative. This program aims to empower one million Saudis with essential AI knowledge and skills. So far, over half a million citizens have registered, offering people from various backgrounds valuable opportunities to learn about AI.
SDAIA has also collaborated with the Ministry of Education and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Scholarship Program to establish an AI Scholarship Program. This program sends talented Saudi students to prestigious universities worldwide to study AI and data science, equipping them with skills needed for leadership roles in these fields.
Generative AI Academy
The Generative AI Academy was launched by SDAIA in partnership with NVIDIA as part of their broader academy initiatives. It aims to nurture a generation of skilled Saudi professionals who can innovate in advanced technologies on a global scale. This academy focuses on preparing future leaders in AI while solidifying Saudi Arabia's leadership position within this domain.
This comprehensive approach not only enhances individual capabilities but also positions Saudi Arabia as a leader within global technological advancements through strategic investments in education focused on artificial intelligence development.
