Saudi Arabia Achieves Top Global Rankings In Road Sector And Hosts Major Conference

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is making notable strides in its road sector. The Roads General Authority is set to host the Road Safety and Sustainability Conference and Exhibition, themed "Innovating for Tomorrow," in collaboration with the International Road Federation. This inaugural event in the Kingdom will take place from November 3 to 4.

Saudi Arabia's road network extends over 73,000 kilometres, linking various regions and provinces. This connectivity supports key sectors like Hajj and Umrah, industry, tourism, and trade. It also enhances logistics services by connecting the Kingdom to eight neighbouring countries through diverse geographic terrains.

Saudi Arabia's Road Sector Gains Global Recognition

The Global Competitiveness Index has ranked Saudi Arabia first worldwide in the Road Connectivity Index. Additionally, a World Economic Forum report highlighted the Kingdom's progress in road infrastructure quality, achieving a score of 5.7. This places Saudi Arabia fourth globally among G20 nations.

The Kingdom aims to rank sixth globally in road quality by 2030 while reducing road fatalities to fewer than five per 100,000 people. The Roads General Authority plans to implement safety measures across the network based on the International Road Assessment Program (IRAP) standards.

At an Arab level, Saudi Arabia leads in using rumble strips—lowered asphalt strips designed to enhance safety through modern vehicles equipped with advanced technologies. The authority is committed to expanding road projects using cutting-edge technologies and equipment to meet strategic objectives.

The conference will draw over 1,000 experts and participants from more than 50 countries. This gathering aims to foster discussions on innovative solutions for road safety and sustainability.

Furthermore, increasing private sector involvement in operational activities is a priority for the Roads General Authority. This initiative aligns with their goal of improving infrastructure quality and safety measures across the Kingdom's extensive road network.

Saudi Arabia's advancements in road infrastructure are pivotal for its economic growth and development. By hosting this conference, the Kingdom underscores its commitment to enhancing road safety and sustainability through global collaboration and innovation.
