Saudi Arabia Accelerates Technological Innovation And Attracts Global Tech Companies At LEAP25

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Alswaha emphasized the Kingdom's efforts to attract global companies and enhance its technological ecosystems. During a session titled "Bringing Tech to Life" at the LEAP25 conference, Alswaha was joined by IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna. The event gathered technology leaders and investors to discuss AI and quantum computing's future while underscoring Saudi Arabia's pioneering role in these fields. Alswaha noted that Saudi Arabia is reinforcing its position as a global hub for digital innovation through ambitious investments in emerging technologies.

The session highlighted Saudi Arabia’s efforts in AI development, particularly through the "ALLaM" project. This initiative, a collaboration between the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) and IBM, resulted in the largest Arabic-language AI model, trained on extensive datasets to understand Arabic language applications deeply.

The discussion also delved into quantum computing breakthroughs. Krishna shared IBM’s expectations of significant advancements within three to five years, despite some estimates suggesting it could take longer. He pointed out that quantum computing could transform energy, materials science, and pharmaceuticals, positioning Saudi Arabia as a key player in utilizing this transformative technology.
