Saudi Arabia Approves SAR1.313 Trillion Budget For 2026, Strengthening Economic Growth And Diplomatic Ties
Saudi Arabia's first half of December was marked by significant developments, including the approval of a substantial 2026 budget and key diplomatic achievements. The Cabinet, led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, sanctioned a state budget with expenditures of SAR1.313 trillion against projected revenues of SAR1.147 trillion. This fiscal strategy is underpinned by strong economic fundamentals, with GDP growth reaching 4.8% in the third quarter of 2025.
The Kingdom has also made strides in regional partnerships. A notable visit from Qatar's Amir resulted in a joint statement highlighting a 634% increase in bilateral trade since 2021. Additionally, an agreement was signed for a high-speed rail link between Riyadh and Doha. Saudi Arabia and Russia further strengthened ties by signing a mutual visa exemption agreement, marking Russia as the first country to have such an arrangement with Saudi Arabia for regular passport holders.

In the realm of innovation, Saudi Arabia is advancing its local industries. King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) collaborated with Lucid Group to open the first Electric Vehicle Innovation Center in Riyadh. This facility aims to boost the Kingdom's capabilities in future mobility and smart systems. In healthcare, King Faisal Specialist Hospital performed a pioneering tumor resection using 3D-printing technology, reinforcing Saudi Arabia's position as a leader in medical innovation.
Financially, Saudi Arabia has shown robust support for various sectors. The Kingdom provided $90 million to Palestine and recorded SAR73.1 billion in nonprofit sector revenues for 2024, reflecting a 22% annual increase. Since 2020, HRDF has supported the employment of 151,000 Saudis in the industrial and mining sectors.
Saudi Arabia continues to expand its global influence through trade and humanitarian initiatives. At the MOMENTUM 2025 conference, the National Development Fund signed agreements worth SAR6 billion. The Hail Region welcomed three million visitors in early 2025, while transshipment containers at Saudi ports increased by 8.22% in November 2025.
The Kingdom also achieved significant milestones in food security with a shrimp self-sufficiency rate of 149% in 2024. Riyadh Airports Company set a new safety record with 25 million safe man-hours. KAUST scientists discovered a blue pigment from algae and chocolate waste, projecting its market value to reach $275 million globally by 2030.
Cultural and Environmental Achievements
Saudi Arabia's cultural contributions are noteworthy as well. The addition of Riyadh, AlUla, and Riyadh Al-Khabra brought the total number of Saudi cities in UNESCO's Global Network of Learning Cities to eight. Environmentally, over 10,000 migratory waterbirds were recorded at Farasan Islands Reserve.
Humanitarian efforts include providing Yemen and Bangladesh with $17.8 million in aid through KSrelief and the UK Foreign Office partnership. Fourteen ambulances were sent to Iraq's Kurdistan Region by KSrelief and OIC.
Future Prospects
The Expo 2030 Riyadh is expected to draw participation from 197 countries and attract over 42 million visits. Moody’s reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s credit rating at Aa3 with a stable outlook, underscoring its strong government balance sheet.
These developments highlight Saudi Arabia’s steady economic growth, fiscal management, and expanding global presence through trade and humanitarian leadership.
