Saudi Arabia Railways Highlights Innovations In Railway Technology At InnoTrans 2023 In Berlin
Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) is participating in the International Trade Fair for Transport Technology, known as InnoTrans, in Berlin from September 24 to 27. This event allows SAR to highlight its advancements in railway technology and infrastructure. Among these are the operation of one of the world's longest freight trains and the Haramain High Speed Railway, which ranks among the top 10 fastest electric trains globally.
SAR's Director of Corporate Marketing and Communications, Mohammed Hamidaddin, expressed that InnoTrans serves as a platform to showcase the Kingdom's railway sector achievements. It also provides an opportunity for SAR to form partnerships with leading companies and adopt cutting-edge technologies. This aligns with the Kingdom's leadership directives to localize industry expertise.

SAR is actively working on strategic plans to expand its rail network from 5,500 kilometers to over 8,000 kilometers. This expansion aims to enhance connectivity between various regions and cities within Saudi Arabia. The initiative supports the National Transport Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030's goal of establishing the Kingdom as a global logistics hub.
At the previous InnoTrans fair in 2022, SAR signed a memorandum of understanding with Alstom. This agreement focused on transferring technology and knowledge related to new green energy practices. As a result, hydrogen train trials commenced in Saudi Arabia in late 2023, marking the first such experiment in the Middle East and North Africa.
InnoTrans is recognized as a premier international trade fair for transport technology. It offers SAR a chance to establish new partnerships by showcasing its current projects and future plans. The event facilitates knowledge exchange and expertise transfer, crucial for advancing Saudi Arabia's railway sector.
The collaboration with Alstom has been pivotal for SAR's technological advancements. It has enabled SAR to explore innovative solutions like hydrogen-powered trains, contributing significantly to sustainable transport initiatives within the region.
SAR's participation at InnoTrans underscores its commitment to adopting advanced technologies and fostering international collaborations. These efforts are integral to achieving long-term goals outlined in Saudi Vision 2030, positioning Saudi Arabia as a leader in global logistics.
