Saqr Ghobash And European Parliament President Roberta Metsola Hold Talks In Abu Dhabi
Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), recently engaged in discussions with Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, at the FNC headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The meeting aimed to enhance parliamentary cooperation between the FNC and the European Parliament. Both parties focused on coordinating efforts on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Ghobash welcomed Metsola and her delegation, highlighting the growing ties between the UAE and the European Union. He noted, "This exceptional visit marks the first by a European Parliament President to our country and the Gulf region." He emphasised that this visit signifies a significant step forward in parliamentary relations with the EU.
The discussions underscored a commitment to their strategic partnership, aiming to promote peace and stability globally. Both sides recognised parliaments' crucial role in fostering dialogue and advancing national interests. They stressed peaceful solutions for current global crises and highlighted parliamentary diplomacy's importance in supporting governments.
Ghobash pointed out that this visit occurs during a critical period internationally. It reflects a shared understanding of cross-border challenges' magnitude and responsible parliamentary approaches prioritising human dignity, stability, and sustainable development.
The meeting was attended by several FNC members, including Mohammed Ismail Al Sahlawi, UAE Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the EU. Ghobash highlighted that UAE-EU relations receive full support from UAE leaders like President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; and Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Metsola expressed her delight at visiting the UAE and appreciated the warm hospitality extended to her delegation. She praised the UAE’s distinguished international standing as a model for peaceful coexistence and stability.

Metsola affirmed that economic relations between the EU and UAE have grown significantly, reflecting deep mutual trust. She acknowledged their shared commitment to advancing economic interests and strengthening institutional ties.
