Sandbox Dubai Establishes First Global Partnership With AI Centre Hamburg For Innovation Growth
Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Artificial Intelligence Centre Hamburg (ARIC). This marks Sandbox Dubai's first collaboration with an international partner. The agreement aims to bring European AI innovators and businesses to Dubai, allowing them to test their technologies within the emirate's regulatory sandbox. This initiative aligns with Dubai's ambition to become a global leader in AI development.
Abdulaziz AlJaziri, Deputy CEO and Chief Operations Officer of DFF, and Alois Krtil, CEO of ARIC, formalised this partnership. AlJaziri emphasised that Sandbox Dubai is crafted to enhance the city's regulatory and innovation framework. It seeks to identify new opportunities and foster innovation by collaborating with both government and private sectors. The goal is to create regulations that support future projects and operations.

The MoU facilitates knowledge exchange between DFF and ARIC, connecting innovators from the UAE and Germany working in deep tech. ARIC is renowned as one of Europe's top AI centres, uniting experts from business, science, and society to share insights in AI. This collaboration will enable networking within the innovation ecosystem, joint technology transfer projects, and shared learning initiatives.
Krtil highlighted that this partnership offers a platform for innovators, entrepreneurs, and policymakers from both nations. They can share expertise in applying AI within sandbox environments. The collaboration aims to foster joint knowledge projects and exchange best practices through collaborative learning efforts.
DFF will grant access to Sandbox Dubai, which allows businesses to trial their products in a regulated setting. This platform was launched in 2024 under the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), aiming to double the city's economy over the next ten years. The sandbox environment accelerates the adoption of new technologies by providing a controlled space for experimentation.
AlJaziri expressed DFF's intention to introduce Sandbox Dubai globally, promoting international cooperation in regulatory innovation. He stated that their objective is to support talent and creative entrepreneurs while encouraging companies to launch new products in Dubai. This effort positions the city as a global business hub where cutting-edge technologies are developed and tested.
This partnership between DFF and ARIC signifies a significant step towards enhancing AI development through international collaboration. By leveraging each other's strengths, both entities aim to drive innovation forward while establishing Dubai as a central hub for technological advancement.
