Salem Al Qasimi Opens Burjeel Cancer Institute To Enhance Oncology Services In Sharjah

Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Ruler’s Office, recently inaugurated the Burjeel Cancer Institute (BCI) at Burjeel Specialty Hospital in Sharjah. This event marks a significant advancement in cancer care within the UAE. The opening was attended by Abdullah Sultan bin Khadem, Executive Director of Sharjah Charity International, along with senior leaders from Burjeel Holdings.

The new facility in Sharjah is designed to provide integrated surgical and medical oncology services under one roof. It allows patients in the Northern Emirates to access advanced cancer diagnostics and treatments without needing to travel far. The centre is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment technologies and staffed by a multidisciplinary team of oncology specialists.

Professor Humaid Al Shamsi, CEO of Burjeel Cancer Institute and President of the Emirates Oncology Society, expressed gratitude to Sheikh Salem for inaugurating the institute. He described it as a pioneering advancement in cancer care. During the event, Sheikh Salem received a book titled "Healthcare in the United Arab Emirates" from Prof. Humaid Al Shamsi and toured the institute's facilities.

The facility offers a range of services including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, precision-targeted therapies, and complex surgical oncology procedures. Specialised chemotherapy suites are designed to enhance patient comfort and privacy, ensuring a supportive environment throughout treatment. This approach aligns with BCI's mission to provide timely and compassionate care close to where patients live.

Prof. Humaid Al Shamsi stated, "With the opening of our oncology center in Sharjah, we are taking a major step toward decentralizing cancer care and extending our patient-first model to the Northern Emirates. This is the first facility of its kind in the region to offer fully integrated surgical and medical oncology services."

BCI's Growing Network

The Sharjah centre complements BCI’s existing network which includes its flagship centre at Burjeel Medical City in Abu Dhabi and another recently launched facility in Al Ain. This expansion reinforces BCI's position as the largest cancer care network in the UAE. Plans are also underway to open a new centre in Oman later this month.
