Sharjah's Homegrown Flour Achieves Global Protein Content Record

The Sharjah Department of Agriculture and Livestock (SDAL) announced that the wheat farm in Mleiha produces the 'Saba Sanabel' flour, known for its exceptionally high protein content of over 19 percent. This makes it the flour with the highest protein content known globally, setting a new standard in the quality of agricultural products.

The exceptional quality of 'Saba Sanabel' flour is the result of the vision and efforts of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Dr. Engineer Khalifa Al Tunaiji, Chairman of the Department of Agriculture and Livestock, credits this success to the ruler's initiatives and supervision.

'Saba Sanabel' stands out globally not only for its protein content but also for its purity. The absence of fertilisers, pesticides, or any harmful compounds makes it the best type of flour available. This purity is achieved through an organic farming system implemented at the Mleiha wheat farm, which enhances soil fertility and quality, ensuring superior wheat grains.

Another crucial aspect of this success is the use of desalinated water for irrigation. Al Tunaiji emphasizes that this contaminant-free water significantly contributes to the increase in grain production and protein content. It accelerates the transfer of dry matter from stems and leaves to grains, which is vital for plant growth.

Quality and Safety Accreditations

Thanks to its chemical-free growth process and natural manure fertilisation, 'Saba Sanabel' flour has received five quality and safety accreditation certifications. It is devoid of toxins and chemicals that could alter its nature as a food ingredient or artificially enhance productivity. This adherence to the highest standards of quality and safety not only boosts consumer confidence but also positions "Saba Sanabel" flour to compete effectively in the market. Significantly, it has become the first national product to be adorned with the "Made in the UAE" logo, symbolizing a milestone in the UAE's agricultural industry.

The achievements of 'Saba Sanabel' flour underscore the potential of sustainable and organic farming practices. By prioritising soil health, water quality, and natural growth processes, Sharjah's agriculture sector demonstrates that it is possible to produce food that is not only safe and healthy but also superior in quality. The success of the Mleiha wheat farm sets an inspiring example for the rest of the UAE and the world.
