RTA Achieves 2024 Energy Management Insight Award For Commitment To Sustainability
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has been honoured with the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) Global Leadership Award in Energy Management for 2024. This accolade, under the Energy Management Insight Awards category, was given for RTA's case study on the ISO 50001 Energy Management System. The award highlights RTA's leadership in promoting sustainable energy practices.
The award emphasises RTA's role in raising global awareness about energy management systems based on ISO 50001 standards. This recognition places RTA at the forefront of the clean energy movement, showcasing its commitment to advancing international best practices and supporting a shift towards a clean energy-driven economy.

The implementation of ISO 50001 was pivotal for RTA, leading to the realisation of numerous benefits from the Energy Management System. In 2022, RTA announced its Net-Zero-Emissions Public Transportation strategy for Dubai by 2050. This initiative aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 10 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent and save around AED3.3 billion.
The Energy Management Insight Award is part of CEM’s initiative to recognise organisations excelling in energy-efficient systems and contributing to global knowledge sharing. RTA's comprehensive case study demonstrated effective integration of energy management systems into existing operations, achieving resource optimisation and sustained energy savings.
Nada Jasim, Director of Safety and Risk Regulation and Planning Department at RTA, stated, "Winning the Energy Management Insight Award is a testament to RTA’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development. By integrating energy management systems into our operations, we are not only improving energy efficiency but also contributing to the broader goal of creating a cleaner, more sustainable future. Moreover, our adoption of ISO 50001 has enabled us to optimise resources, reduce emissions, and contribute to the global energy transition".
RTA's dedication extends beyond awards; it is committed to implementing further sustainable practices that will support Dubai's growth as a city. The authority continues to focus on improving its energy performance while contributing significantly to global efforts in clean energy transitions.
This recognition underscores RTA's significant contributions towards promoting sustainable practices and enhancing global awareness about effective energy management systems. Through these efforts, RTA remains a key player in driving forward international best practices in clean energy initiatives.
