RTA Collaborates With Southwest Ohio To Elevate Mass Transit Systems
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), recently met with a delegation from Ohio, USA. The delegation was led by Blake Ethridge, Chairman of the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA). They discussed enhancing relations and collaboration in areas such as mass transport, integrated mobility applications, and autonomous transport.
During their meeting, Al Tayer shared RTA's best practices in public transport and sustainable systems. The delegation expressed their desire to collaborate with RTA to transform Dubai and Ohio into international hubs for entrepreneurship and tourism. They aim to position these locations among the best global living destinations.

The meeting also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between RTA and SORTA. This MoU aims to enhance cooperation, support strategic partnerships, and deliver outstanding public transport services. These efforts are expected to positively impact various economic and social sectors in both regions.
Al Tayer commented on future plans to develop public transport by focusing on technology and innovation. He mentioned integrating transport systems, outsourcing bus services, engaging the private sector, and sharing knowledge in planning bus stops. Both parties will explore mutual benefits from advanced public transport planning methods.
The MoU was signed by Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of Public Transport Agency for RTA, and Darryl Healy, CEO and General Manager for SORTA. Several officials from both sides were present during the signing. The agreement includes promoting joint efforts to enhance performance, facilitate transactions, develop customer service, and maintain communication between the two entities.
Shared Vision for Seamless Mobility
Al Tayer highlighted that the strategic partnership with SORTA aligns with RTA's vision as "The World Leader in Seamless and Sustainable Mobility." The MoU will unify interests in areas such as electric buses, hydrogen buses, rapid transit buses, dedicated lanes, and other bus priority systems.
Ethridge expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with Dubai’s RTA. He stated that this partnership marks a new era of global transit collaborations. "We have been able to drive considerable ridership growth and transit-related infrastructure investment that has resulted in our Midwestern city seeing record ridership recovery and growth well above our peers," Ethridge said.
The MoU also calls for exchanging technical knowledge at various levels. It includes sharing information related to main tasks beneficial to both parties. This exchange aims to embed a culture of joint efforts to enhance performance and facilitate transactions.
