Dubai: RTA Lowers Bus-On-Demand Fares In Business Bay

In a move aimed at enhancing Dubai's public transport system, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a significant reduction in the fares for its Dubai Bus On-Demand service in the Business Bay area, now costing just Dh2, down from Dh5.

Implemented from Friday, 20 December, this fare adjustment is designed to make the service more affordable for a wider audience, supporting the RTA's goal of promoting the integration of different modes of transport and encouraging the use of these efficient and punctual buses by both residents and visitors.

Adel Shakri, the Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA's Public Transport Agency, highlighted the popularity of the on-demand bus service in the Business Bay area. He noted that despite its high demand, the decision to lower fares reflects the RTA's commitment to making public transport more accessible.

"The fare reduction initiative for the Bus-On-Demand service in Business Bay area will enhance traffic flow, contributing to smoother movement in this vital area. The service is expected to witness broader uptake among public transport users, particularly as the fare reduction applies to a vital area. Additionally, it facilitates travel between two adjacent areas, enhancing integration within the public transport network and enabling passengers to reach their destinations quickly and safely," Shakri explained.

Shakri further announced plans to expand the Dubai Bus On-Demand service, aiming to cover 10 areas with a fleet of 41 buses by the end of the first half of 2025. This expansion is part of the RTA's strategy to enhance the city's public transport network's efficiency and connectivity, encouraging more people to switch to public transport solutions.

The service's unique feature is its responsiveness to passenger requests via the smart Dubai Bus On-Demand app. This innovative approach allows for flexible routing from the starting point to the destination, with fares payable directly through the app. It addresses the need for first- and last-mile connectivity, effectively bridging the gap between passengers' homes and the nearest public transport stations.

"The Bus-On-Demand initiative is based on a system that responds to passenger requests through the smart Dubai Bus On-Demand app. The app connects selected areas using small public buses, allowing users to determine their route from the starting point to their destination and pay the fare directly via the app. The service provides an innovative solution for first- and last-mile trips, bridging the gap between passengers' residences and the nearest public transport stations," concluded Shakri.
