RTA Enhances Infrastructure With 16.5 Km Of Internal Roads In Al Awir 1 Project
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is working on a project to build 16.5 km of internal roads in Al Awir 1. This initiative aligns with the leadership's vision to boost infrastructure in residential areas, supporting Dubai's urban growth and enhancing residents' quality of life. The project aims to improve accessibility by adding an entrance from Emirates Road, along with intersections and roundabouts.
The RTA plans to add a lane to Emirates Road, stretching from Al Awir 1's entrance to Sharjah. This expansion is expected to increase the road's capacity by 16%. Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, stated, "This project aligns with RTA's commitment to enhancing infrastructure in residential areas, including road networks, lighting, and rainwater drainage systems."

The development includes constructing 5 km of internal roads within the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment residential project. Additionally, a 7.5 km road will connect Emirates Road to Al Awir 1. This dual-lane road features intersections and U-turns near Emirates Road, linking the housing project with Emirates Road.
The new entrance and exit will double the area's access capacity from 1,500 vehicles per hour to 3,000 vehicles per hour. Furthermore, a 4 km lane will be added to Emirates Road from Al Awir 1's entrance to Sharjah. With a speed limit of 110 km/h, this lane can handle up to 2,000 vehicles per hour.
RTA has also started constructing additional entrances and exits in four residential areas: Al Warqa, Nadd Hessa, Al Barsha South, and Wadi Al Safa 3. In Al Warqa, work is underway for a direct entrance and exit from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The project includes converting roundabouts into signalised intersections to ease congestion.
This development serves over 350,000 residents by streamlining entry and exit points. It aims to increase Al Warqa 1 Street's capacity by 30% and reduce travel time by 80%, cutting it from 20 minutes to just 3.5 minutes.
Nadd Hessa Connectivity Improvements
An additional entrance and exit for Nadd Hessa will connect Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street. Designed with two lanes, these access points can accommodate up to 6,000 vehicles per hour. They serve Nadd Hessa, Al Warsan 4, Hessa Gardens, and Dubai Silicon Oasis.
The development extends from the service road parallel to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street. A roundabout will ensure smooth access between Nadd Hessa and Dubai Silicon Oasis.
Wadi Al Safa 3 Developments
The Wadi Al Safa 3 project involves creating a direct entrance from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road for vehicles coming from Dubai–Al Ain Road. Spanning 4 km, this project includes internal roads that enhance connectivity for residents while reducing travel distances by approximately 10 km.
Recently completed road works in Al Barsha South included upgrading the signalised intersection at Hessa Street by adding a third left-turn lane for easier entry into the area. Hessa Street was widened over a stretch of more than one kilometre at this intersection.
These improvements increased lane numbers to four in each direction at this location. As a result, road capacity rose from accommodating 6,000 vehicles per hour in both directions up to handling around nine thousand cars hourly now—significantly improving traffic flow while reducing wait times at signals down from four minutes previously experienced here before enhancements took place now only requiring one minute instead.
