RTA Awards AED 798 Million Contract To Enhance Al Qudra Street Development Project In Dubai

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has awarded a contract for the Al Qudra Street Development Project. This initiative aims to improve traffic flow, enhance mobility for residents and visitors, and support the emirate's urban development. The project, costing AED 798 million, will extend from the intersection of Al Qudra Street with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road.

Key features include developing interchanges, constructing bridges totalling 2,700 metres, and expanding the street by 11.6 kilometres. These improvements are expected to increase road capacity and reduce travel time from 9.4 minutes to 2.8 minutes. The project will benefit approximately 400,000 residents and visitors in the area.

RTA Awards AED 798 Million for Al Qudra Project

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of RTA's Board of Executive Directors, stated that the project is crucial for improving the East-West road network. It serves key areas like Arabian Ranches 1 and 2, Dubai Motor City, Akoya, Mudon, DAMAC Hills, and The Sustainable City. "This project will enhance road capacity and optimise traffic flow at key strategic intersections," he said.

The development includes a 600-metre bridge on Al Qudra Street with four lanes in each direction. This enhancement aims to improve traffic flow on both Al Qudra Street and connecting roads by increasing capacity from 6,600 vehicles per hour to 19,200 vehicles per hour. Waiting times at intersections will be reduced significantly.

Al Tayer elaborated on upgrading the intersection of Al Qudra Street with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street by constructing a 700-metre bridge with seven lanes in both directions. Auxiliary lanes for side ramps will ensure smooth transitions without disrupting mainstream traffic flow.

A new 500-metre bridge will facilitate traffic from Al Qudra Street to Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street towards Jebel Ali. Additionally, a 900-metre bridge will serve traffic heading towards Downtown Dubai and Dubai International Airport.

Improving Connectivity

The project also involves constructing service roads along Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street over three kilometres to enhance connectivity with surrounding developments. Upgrading this intersection will increase street capacity from 7,800 vehicles per hour to 19,400 vehicles per hour while reducing waiting times significantly.

Further enhancements include extending Al Qudra Street from Emirates Road to a roundabout serving Town Square, Mira, and DAMAC Hills 2. This expansion covers 3.4 kilometres of road to improve connectivity in these growing communities.

Future Developments

A subsequent phase involves building a new road in the southern part of the developers' area extending 4.8 kilometres to connect with Emirates Road. This aims to improve access to development areas while expanding lanes on both sides of Emirates Road over a similar distance for better connectivity.

This comprehensive project not only addresses current traffic challenges but also supports future urban growth by enhancing infrastructure across key areas in Dubai.
