Royal Stables Unveils Para Dressage Performance Programme To Support Athletes Of Determination

The Royal Stables in Abu Dhabi has introduced the "Para Dressage Performance Programme" in partnership with the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation. This initiative aims to create a skilled national para dressage team that can compete internationally, with the goal of qualifying for the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.

Dr. Ghanem Al Hajri, Secretary-General of the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, expressed confidence in para dressage becoming a significant area of growth for the UAE. He emphasised the federation's dedication to inclusion, collaboration, and nurturing athletic potential over the long term.

Para Dressage Programme Launched at Royal Stables

The programme was unveiled at a press conference held at the historic Sheikh Zayed Majlis in Abu Dhabi. The event detailed the development pathway and training plan, underscoring The Royal Stables' commitment to inclusion, skills development, and sporting excellence within the UAE.

Buthaina Abdullah Mohamed Ali Al Mazrouei, a Board Member at The Royal Stables, highlighted equestrianism's cultural importance in Emirati heritage. She stressed providing genuine opportunities for athletes of determination to excel from the very majlis where The Royal Stables’ legacy began in 1969.

Dr. Russell MacKechnie-Guire, Technical Lead of the Programme, explained that their training framework relies on advanced science, sports medicine, and biomechanical analysis. With extensive experience with Paralympic athletes, he believes UAE riders have the potential to perform at elite levels globally.

The future headquarters for the UAE Para Dressage Team were revealed during the press conference as part of The Royal Stables’ redevelopment project. These upgraded facilities will feature a new indoor arena, modern clubhouse, advanced accommodation and therapy spaces, along with two "Racewood" riding simulators used by leading equestrian nations.

Athlete Assessment Process

Laura Richardson, Performance Manager of the Programme, outlined that athlete assessments are currently underway. She noted that besides aiming for sporting excellence, the programme seeks to provide sustainable opportunities for athletes through milestones like the Asian Championships and Asian Games on their path to Los Angeles 2028.

A specialised team from The Royal Stables will manage all aspects related to developing both athletes and horses. They are now accepting applications from aspiring athletes of determination as well as potential sponsors interested in supporting this initiative.
