Royal Institute Of Traditional Arts Showcases Saudi Craftsmanship At Banan Handicrafts Week 2024

The Royal Institute of Traditional Arts (Wrth) is taking part in the second Saudi International Handicrafts Week, known as "Banan." This event is organised by the Heritage Commission and supported by Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, the Minister of Culture. Scheduled from November 23 to 29, 2024, at the ROSHN Venue in Riyadh, it features artisans from over 20 countries and 500 local and international participants.

Wrth contributes as a knowledge partner, enhancing the exhibition with interactive displays of Saudi traditional arts and crafts. Visitors to the Wrth Pavilion can explore educational initiatives and training programs offered by the institute. The pavilion highlights various fields such as Al-Qatt Al-Asiri, pottery, and Al Sadu weaving.

Saudi Craftsmanship at Banan Handicrafts Week

At the Wrth Pavilion, attendees can engage in hands-on workshops that delve into traditional crafts. Participants have the opportunity to create items like woven palm fronds and embroidered pieces. These crafted items are then incorporated into unique artworks featuring metal engravings and stone designs that reflect Saudi craftsmanship traditions.

The pavilion also offers live demonstrations and stories from artisans, providing a closer look at these cultural treasures. This initiative aligns with Wrth's mission to empower artisans by promoting their craftsmanship through education and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Wrth students and entrepreneurs have dedicated sales points where they can showcase and sell their handmade products. This platform allows them to enter the commercial market while highlighting their skills. The Royal Institute of Traditional Arts is committed to preserving Saudi traditional arts through education, research, and entrepreneurial initiatives.

The institute supports national living treasures by fostering a dynamic market for both tangible and intangible heritage. By doing so, it ensures that these timeless traditions continue to thrive for future generations.

This event aims to celebrate handmade crafts while supporting their preservation across generations. It provides a platform for artisans worldwide to share their skills and cultural heritage with a broader audience.
