Royal Commission For Makkah City Initiates Comprehensive Resident Socioeconomic Survey For Urban Planning
The Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites has initiated a socioeconomic survey targeting residents as part of the Urban Observatory's ongoing activities in Makkah. This survey, running until October 2025, aims to bolster sustainable urban planning, enhance quality of life, and improve service efficiency. It involves direct field interviews with a diverse group of citizens and residents across various districts.
Fieldwork is conducted daily in two shifts: from 10 am to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 9 pm. This schedule respects the privacy and daily routines of residents. The team conducting these interviews comprises trained male and female researchers who carry official identification cards issued by the commission. This approach is intended to build community trust and ensure data collection credibility.

This initiative serves as a foundation for creating an accurate urban database that will update Makkah’s information systems. The database will generate socioeconomic indicators reflecting the population's actual conditions. These indicators are crucial for data-driven decision-making, guiding priority public policies, and development projects.
The commission highlighted that this project aligns with a comprehensive vision to evaluate Makkah's urban reality. It aims to harmonise local efforts with international best practices in urban planning and smart urban transformation, supporting the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
The survey methodology involves direct engagement with residents through field interviews. These interviews are conducted by a qualified team equipped with official identification cards from the commission. This method ensures data reliability while fostering trust within the community.
By collecting detailed socioeconomic data, the project seeks to support sustainable urban planning efforts in Makkah. The information gathered will help improve service efficiency and quality of life for residents by informing future development initiatives.
This comprehensive approach underscores the importance of aligning local urban planning efforts with global standards. By doing so, it supports Saudi Vision 2030's goals for smart urban transformation and sustainable development in Makkah.
