Royal Commission For AlUla Highlights Conservation Efforts At IUCN World Congress In Abu Dhabi
The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) is actively engaging in the IUCN World Conservation Congress, a major event dedicated to nature conservation and sustainable development. Held in Abu Dhabi from October 9 to 15, 2025, this gathering unites leaders from various sectors to establish global priorities and promote significant actions for nature.
RCU's involvement highlights its dedication to making AlUla a global example of conservation and sustainable development. This year, RCU is focusing on wildlife preservation, including habitat restoration and the reintroduction of endangered species. Their work in balancing agriculture with biodiversity is also featured in the IUCN Flagship Report on Agriculture and Conservation.

A key aspect of RCU's participation is its strategic partnership with IUCN, initiated in 2021 and strengthened by membership in 2022. This collaboration has propelled vital projects such as the AlUla Protected Areas Network (APAN), ecosystem restoration efforts, conservation framework development, and the Sports for Nature program.
RCU is celebrating Sharaan Nature Reserve's inclusion on the IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas. This accolade acknowledges the effective and inclusive management of one of AlUla’s significant natural sites. These initiatives reflect RCU’s ambition to protect biodiversity, restore ecosystems, and align with Saudi Green Initiative and Vision 2030.
Through its presence at the IUCN World Conservation Congress, RCU reaffirms its role as a reliable partner in advancing global conservation goals. The commission continues to preserve AlUla's natural and cultural heritage while contributing to international conservation efforts.
