The Roads General Authority stated that these measures help meet Vision 2030 objectives. The plan backs the aim of reaching 30 million Umrah performers each year by 2030. It also strengthens road sector performance to match international standards and rankings for quality and safety.

Part of the programme is linked to the Roads Sector Program, which has clear performance targets. These include gaining sixth place worldwide in the road quality index. Another target is lowering traffic deaths to fewer than five cases per 100,000 people.

Further works by the Roads General Authority covered over 59,500 linear meters of concrete and metal barriers. Directional and warning signs were installed or serviced on roads leading to the Two Holy Mosques. These steps support safer driving conditions for visitors and residents.

Earlier, the Roads General Authority began its preparations by inspecting network conditions in Makkah and Madinah regions. Teams checked roads feeding into the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque. The inspections verified compliance with safety rules and quality benchmarks across main and secondary routes.

The authority explained that these actions aim to secure comprehensive road safety coverage consistent with the International Road Assessment Program classification. By improving infrastructure and detailed monitoring, the Roads General Authority seeks to strengthen protection for all road users during peak Umrah periods.

To oversee implementation, the Roads General Authority deployed a specialised team of 300 engineers and inspectors. The group includes road experts and quality control staff. Their mission is to track performance, respond to field issues, and ensure continuous operational readiness during Ramadan 1447 AH.

The Roads General Authority noted that these initiatives help maintain advanced service levels and road capacity. Better network performance supports the Kingdom’s ambition to act as a global logistics hub. The measures also improve the overall experience of Umrah performers and worshippers using these key routes.
