Riyadh Region's Road Sector Experiences Growth With SAR 3 Billion Investment In New Projects
The road sector in the Riyadh region is undergoing major changes. The total road length in the area is around 15,000 km. New projects and maintenance efforts are being implemented across all governorates, costing about SAR3 billion. These initiatives aim to meet the rising demand for smooth travel and support the Kingdom's goal of becoming a global logistics hub.
The Roads General Authority (RGA) has announced the completion of 23 road projects in Riyadh. Among these are 20 preventive maintenance projects covering 215 km, costing SAR170 million. Additionally, three projects focused on improving traffic safety have been completed at a cost exceeding SAR171 million.

Currently, 18 road projects are underway, stretching up to 516 km with a budget of SAR1.5 billion. Alongside these, there are 48 preventive maintenance projects covering 2,500 km valued at SAR1 billion. A separate project aimed at enhancing traffic safety is also being executed with an investment of SAR125 million.
The RGA highlighted that the road sector plays a vital role in supporting various sectors such as industry, tourism, trade, and logistics services. The Kingdom leads globally in road connectivity index rankings. The authority uses cutting-edge technologies and maintains a large fleet of AI-based equipment to manage these projects efficiently.
Road projects adhere to high-quality standards to achieve sector goals like reducing road fatalities to fewer than five per 100,000 people. Another objective is to rank sixth worldwide in the road quality index. The RGA aims to integrate traffic safety measures based on IRAP standards into the network.
Efforts are also directed towards maintaining advanced network capacity levels and increasing private sector involvement in operations by 20%. These steps ensure that the infrastructure supports economic growth and enhances safety for all users.
The RGA's commitment to excellence is evident through its specialised workforce dedicated to advancing the road sector's capabilities. This focus on quality and innovation ensures that Saudi Arabia's roads meet international benchmarks while catering to local needs effectively.
